Before the end of the year sweeps us off our feet, I wanted to look back at a wonderful, beautiful and successful year. I love my job so much.
Reflecting back on the opportunity to work with so many people from all over the world and having a part in one of the best days of their lives is a great honor. I honestly never dreamed that my career could be so fulfilling. Being one of the girls every weekend is fun. Styling the hair of all these girls is the cherry on top.
Starting at the beginning of the year with a photo shoot in downtown Columbus is always fun. Styled shoots are one of my favorite things to do. Being creative and bringing a focus to the art of hairstyling is a dream. At the end of January, I had the opportunity to work with Sarah Elizabeth Photography to bring to life the Red Brick Occasions event/venue center was great. ShaTerra Jenkins created beautiful looks with her makeup skills. Other vendors included Lasting Impressions Event Rental. I styled the model/bride's hair into two different updos that fit the shoot perfectly.
The year was filled with many wedding hair trials, senior photo sessions (hair styling) with Rachel Figueroa Photography, styled shoots, hair styling for engagement photo shoots, podcast recording of "Matte, Satin and Shimmer. Inside the World of Beauty with Shannon and Joy."
The podcast was a new venture with Joy Macke. We started a podcast recording about the beauty industry behind the scenes, our favorite products, new finds, how to's and more. "Matte, Satin and Shimmer. Inside the World of Beauty with Shannon and Joy." is found on iTunes and YouTube. Check it out. We are pretty proud of it. For the time, while our season got extremely busy, we had to pause our recordings but hope to pick it back up soon. We are hoping to add to the 13 episodes.
The beginning of February featured a styled shoot with Rachel Figueroa Photography. The senior shoot was a lot of fun and had an urban, city type theme. The three senior models from high school's around the Ohio area were gorgeous in all their shots. Joy Macke did the makeup and wardrobe styling.
Fitting in one of my hobbies to change things up a little is necessary. Running is a great passion of mine. Working with Speedy Sneakers Racing and Event Management is a good time. One of my other passions is coaching. Coaching Track & Field (indoor and outdoor) and Cross Country at the Marysville High School is great fun. At the same time, partnering up with Peter Arbogast of Wing and a Prayer Running and Fitness in Marysville is a great way to fit in strength training. Gotta stay in shape!
March, early spring brings on the Arnold Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Along with this comes fitness shoots, competitions and more. In March of 2015, Joy Macke and I worked on a Muscle Tech photo shoot with their model Jenna. This was at the Kinopicz American studio in Grandview (Columbus, Oh).
Late March brought on a styled shoot for Trousseau Bridal in downtown Powell, Ohio (just outside of Dublin). Gotta love any place that is right across the street from a Jeni's ice cream! The shoot was amazing. While the weather was still chilly in Ohio, we were ready to roll. We had all the best vendors. The shoot featured three different dresses from Trousseau's collection of amazing, high end racks. Bridal Gowns + Jewelry // Trousseau Bridal of Powell, Makeup // State of Face Makeup Artistry, Hair // Shannon Goode, Paper Flowers // Paper Blooms by Lea Gray Designs, Photography // Amy Ann Photography.
Amy Ann Photography has worked with me this year on several jobs. She is a total doll. Check out the photos from the shoot.
April rolls around and weddings are in full swing and Columbus Boudoir (downtown Columbus) is shooting away. Styling hair for Columbus Boudoir is a lot of fun. The glamour and class in the product that Heather of Columbus Boudoir produces is like no other. If you haven't checked out their site, go now!
Mid April, I got the opportunity to work with Kimberly (Potterf) Dorsey on a corporate shoot in Columbus. Lindsay from Cheek Make up Artistry did the makeup.
More trials, consultations, engagement shoot hair styling and weddings. The year is really starting to roll by when May gets close.
Mid June brought about a special treat. Amy Halpin, a beautiful bride, gifted me a most awesome treat. She gave me two tickets to the OSU Women's Football Clinic. I couldn't have been more honored and excited to attend. We had a blast and it will most likely become an annual excursion for me and my friends. If you didn't already know, Urban Meyer puts this on with a team of helpers, including some of his best players, to raise money for the Stephanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. One of my favorite memories!
Having a brief opportunity to train closely with a highly skilled group of professional Tigi hair stylists from July -August was a priceless opportunity. Renewing my passion for cutting and styling hair. This was a great opportunity. Always looking for new ways to be inspired. Thank you Nori!
Rounding off the year, I got the opportunity to have a photo shoot of my own with Rachel Figueroa Photography! Here a few shots that haven't made their way into the spotlight yet. Joy Macke, of State of Face Make Up Artistry, and I have become very close. I love this girl. Her talent inspires, her motivation moves me and she sets the pace for the beauty industry pros of Ohio!
Every since September hit, the year flew by. Working on weddings every weekend, boudoir shoots and senior photo shoots during the week, what more can a girl ask for??!!
October brought on two more styled shoots that really were fun! Henry Photography offered their first set of workshops for photographers. The first was a "Forage and Farm" shoot and the second was a "Berries and Wine". Styling the hair for their models was a dream. Photos will come out soon!
Along with the many weddings I styled hair for, forming relationships with some of the best vendors in the wedding and beauty industry is what I look forward to. Being inspired by artists pushing their way to the front of the trend setting pack.
I want to thank all the people I have had the chance to work with. Whether I got to have my hands in your hair or work beside you to create the best of the best, it was a tremendous honor and I couldn't be more thankful!
